People continue to amaze me...
Why is it that as humans we tend to focus on the negative? Today I decided enough was enough and I rode my bike to our church's men's bible study and then on to the office. However someone was nice enough to tell me that riding was hazardous and should not be engaged in. DUDE get a life! ;) Then he asked well at least do you wear a helmet, to which I replied negative. Thus far no one that has complained about how bad that is has put any money where their mouth is and contributed to the "Jeff's Helmet Fund". (The helmet I feel will be comfortable enough for me to always want to wear it costs around $500.00.) Thankfully Texas allows you to legally not have to wear a helmet. Anyway I digress. The gentleman then went on to give me more examples of how riding was basically dangerous to my life.
This got me thinking of all the people that ride and don't have accidents why do we humans feel the need to tell someone about all the negatives about something? Why can't we encourage them to be cautious and wish them safe riding, in my specific case.
I guess it boils down to what we accept as safe, or minimal risk. People in a car or walking on the street, or even a god fearing Texan keeping his guns in his house thinks nothing of those situations because they have accepted the risk and being acceptable to their outlook on life.
The take away for me is that I need to carefully watch what I say to others making sure I build them up with my words and not placing negative obstacles, with my words, in their path.
