DasBlog feature I have been waiting for

I have been waiting for the blogging software I use to run this blog to allow SMTP authentication. Doing so will enable email to be sent when comments, etc have been posted. Having just upgraded to the latest version I also looked at the road map and this new feature is suppose to be in the next release.

Great work dasBlog team!

Welcome to my dasBlog blog

Well this past weekend & today have been really hectic. I took down the old version of my portal software and loaded the new. It took a little bit of working and digging around the net to figure out how to get everything working on my host. I also moved from .text to dasBlog. One of the nice features of dasBlog is the ability to post via email. That is a great feature but I was looking for a blog that was just a single blog engine not one tied to a bunch of other apps the way community server is bundled up. Now comes the fun task of populating all the sites with their content....

The DNN frustration

I have been looking at the DNN portal since the 2.1.2 version has been released and have been impressed with the framework. While I have also looked at the rainbow portal I like DNN better. I don't like rainbow for the main reason that its URL's are ugly. It has a whizzbang internationalize module but dang the urls are totally crappy. THe one frustrating thing about DNN (or any software really) is when it appears to be easy (read simple) to use and yet the desired results are not achieved. For example, I uploaded some skin files and while they appear in the drop down box I can't apply them as I...

I really need to fix the email problem

I got another comment on my blog.. WOW two so far, this is great. ;)
There is a small problem however in that I haven't been able to get the email feature of .Text working. I guess I'll have to break down and code a handler for the aspNetEmail component I have access to. The problem with is I'm not sure how to go about adding the functionality.*sigh* another project with no time.

Oh man!!!

I can hardly contain the excitment I'm feeling right now. Thanks to Steven Smith I learnt the bits for Whidbey are available if you have an MSDN universal subscription. In 12 or so hours I will have downloaded the 2.6 gig Visual Studio 2005 Community Technology Preview March 2004 - Full DVD Image!! (Our LAN at the office must be a little slow.)YAHOOOOO! 59 Comments

FreeTextBox 2.0

Thanks to ScottW for the heads up, FreeTextBox 2.0 was released. Looking over the site the main new feature is the ability to use the richness in mozilla ( Firefox ) how cool is that?? One of the features that isn't working however is the image gallery. The fact that the FreeTextBox now works in Mozilla is a huge step forward in making the GotCommunityNet (GCN) appeal to more people. Right now version 1.x of the control is in use in the GCN code base and I would love to see version 2 added as well as the ability to have separate image galleries per community. This to me this would go a long way...

Major bummer

On the flight up here to WI I discovered I didn't have the asp.net runtime loaded. This is a major bummer as I'm not able to run aspx pages locally on my laptop untill I get the runtime. Hopefully this evening I'll be able to make the download. 51 Comments

Studying the C#

Yesterday evening I attended the Northwest C# study group. There were 7 people in attendance and the topic of the evening was to decide what the group should study next. I suggested the Community Starter Kit from the asp.net website . However, due to different needs within the group we decided to break down the Reports Starter Kit .I also received my first assignment, a high level overview presentation of asp.net. There are a number of people in the group who have never developed a web application before and asked for this information to be presented as it will help bring them up to speed in the...
