Wisdom for today (honor and business)

26It is an honor to receive an honest reply.

27Develop your business first before building your house.

Proverbs 24 (NLT)

These two sentences really jumped out at me ask was reading this morning. The first one because I had never though about how honoring it is to receive an honest reply and the act of showing honor to someone by being honest. Yet it is deceitful to not give an honest reply and there for not honoring to the person. In my life I want to give honor and it has become my goal to give a truthful and honest reply to others, in doing so I have also been learning to give such a reply in a manner that will be received by them. It is one thing to be “brutally” honest and another to speak in a tone and with words, communicating the same thing, yet have the reply be accepted on the one hand and rejected on the other.

The second verse speaks to me about building revenue before working to spend it. Most people go to work on someone else’s business and then start building their house. However it is far more wise to build and develop one’s own business and then build one’s house. Putting off the luxury items until one has created a revenue stream to fatten their purse. This same wisdom is also echoed in the “Richest Man in Babylon” book. I encourage you to read it if you haven’t already.
